Martha Jane Sailem, age 72, died on April 5, 2017.
She was born to the late M.P. Matthews, Sr. and Lucille Matthews on May 12, 1944 in Baxley.
She was a member of the St. James A.M.E. Church for many years and served faithfully on the Usher’s Board. She loved her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, her husband, Jessie Sailem, Sr.; children, Jackie Sailem and Levertis Sailem; siblings, Robert Cullers and Kate Robinson.
Survivors include sons, Jessie Sailem, Jr. (Carol) of Dublin, Nathaniel Sailem of Baxley, Wallace Sailem (Shirley) of Birmingham, Alabama, Roy Sailem of Baxley, Cedric Sailem (Robin) of Baxley, David Sailem of Jacksonville, Florida and Tracy Sailem (Lee) of Hazlehurst; sisters, Geneva Ryals (Gus) of Baxley and Mary Lee Brown of Lincolnton; brother, M.P. Matthews, Jr. of Baxley; special friends, Mae Ellis, Mozella Hall, Maude King, Ruby Lee Rooks, Minister Nettie Smith and Peggy Smith. She also leaves to cherish her memory, twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ernest Ryals officiating and the Reverend Lucretia Stinson presiding at St. James A.M.E. Church in Baxley.
Internment followed in the Old Field Cemetery in Baxley.
Repast was held in the St. James A.M.E. Social Hall.
Visitation was held Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at C.M. Brown Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Jessie Sailem, Jr., Nathaniel Sailem, Wallace Sailem, Roy Sailem, Cedric Sailem, David Sailem and Tracy Sailem.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren.
Musical selections were rendered by the combined choir and Tammy Richburg.
